SAFEhouse for the Performing Arts presents West Wave, a dance festival of digital and live performances, June 11, 12 and 13, 2021. Pre-recorded virtual programs are on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 11, 12 and 13, 2021 at 5:00pm PST. Live performances: One night only, Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 8:00 pm PST -- at Joe Goode Annex, 401 Alabama Street, in San Francisco's Mission district.
This 29th anniversary of West Wave is packed with three live shows and eight pre-recorded videos by creators who appear in their own dramatic, comedic and musical dance pieces. Four different programs highlighting QT&POC -- Queer, Trans and People of Color will be shown over three evenings of shared programs with one $10 ticket price for each program. Ticketholders should check website for safety protocol updates.
Our local arts community remains steadfast during Covid-19 in presenting new works whether it be through pre-recorded video, live streaming or live with limitations. SAFEhouse Artistic Director, Joe Landini, and fellow staff curator, Jesselito Bie, did not know what to plan for this year, so they had to adapt. The result is a hybrid format that updates this community tradition. They chose risk takers who desire to expand their potential with new formats and genres. Some are challenging themselves by combining filmmaking with their choreographic impulses. Most are up-and-comers building their performance careers. All bring a resurgence of creative energy to the 29th West Wave Festival.
