On Thursday, November 15, 2018, Mental Health California™ will present an elegant evening of recognition of achievements in mental health and wellness amongst industry leadership in California. Award recipients will have demonstrated success in helping to resolve complex community mental health concerns through advocacy, research, public policy, outreach, clinical work, county administration, or direct services. An hour-long dinner social will precede the awards ceremony. We will have guest speakers, video presentations, and excellent entertainment throughout the event. Proceeds from the event will support our training, education, and community outreach programs.
This year’s honorees are Dr. Richard Pan, State Senator, for the “Legislative Leadership Award”, Dr. Sergio Aguilar-Gaxiola, Founding Director of the UC Davis Center for Reducing Health Disparities for the “Research Award”, and Yvonnia Brown, Director, Behavioral Health and Recovery Services, Merced County, for the “County Behavioral Health Leadership Award”.
Guest speakers include Hollywood movie producer and screenwriter Sterling Anderson, Dr. John Boyd, CEO of System Mental Health for Sutter Health, Cassaundra Cochron, Director of the TLCS Triage Navigator Program, and Captain Ernie Daniels (ret.), Chair of the Board of Trustees of Highlands Community Charter School.
Performing at this year's event is the legendary "Queen of Funk", Patryce “Choc’Let” Banks, and her band, STR8 Funk, the hottest “funk R&B soul” band in Los Angeles and beyond. Ms. Banks carved her niche as the former female lead singer of the chart-topping “Graham Central Station,” featuring Larry Graham (former bass player for Sly and the Family Stone). Ms. Banks has collaborated with artists such as B.B. King, Stephanie Mills, Chaka Kahn, Wayne Henderson and the Crusaders, and Ronnie Laws, among many others.
Co-hosted by radio personality Leon Guidry, the voice of the “smooth vibe” on KDEE 97.5 FM, our event is filled with appreciation for the work being done in mental health, emotion and real stories of hope, great food, wine, and dessert, and excellent entertainment throughout.
Presented by Highlands Community Charter School. Additional event sponsors include United Healthcare, Crestwood Behavioral Health, Sutter Health, Arthur A. Benjamin Health Professions High School, the CHELSEA Corporation, the California Black Chamber of Commerce, the California Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, RCJ Law Enforcement Consulting, and Woodbridge Wines by Robert Mondavi.
